It's one of Pete's favorite holidays today, an Emmy recap and the new season of TV is here!
Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day! If you need some help learning how to talk like a pirate beyond just the basic "Yarrrr!" here are a few pirate lingo helpers:
Beauty - The only way to address a woman. For example, "Come here me beauty."
Bilge Rat - A rat that lives in the lowest part of the ship with the slimy smelly water. Bilge rat is a great insult.
Grog - An alcoholic drink. Usually rum diluted with water. For example, "Bring me a grog smartly ya bilge rat!"
Smartly - To do something quickly. See "grog" for proper context.
The Emmy Awards were held last night and Modern Family cleaned up with five awards. Among the haul was Best Comedy Series, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Outstanding Drama went to Mad Men. Kyle Chandler of Friday Night Lights won Best Actor in a Drama. Best Actress in a Drama went to Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife. Best Actor in a Comedy went to Jim Parsons for Big Bang Theory. Best Actress in a Comedy went to Melissa McCarthy for Mike & Molly and Jon Stewart won an Emmy for Best Variety, Music or Comedy Series for The Daily Show.
The new TV Season begins tonight! Our favorite Monday night shows are returning (Two and a Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, House, Mike & Molly etc.) but there is a new crop of shows that start tonight. Here's a quick rundown:
Terra Nova (Fox) - Think Swiss Family Robinson but with dinosaurs.
2 Broke Girls (CBS) - From the creators of Sex & The City comes a new comedy about two struggling waitresses at a Brooklyn diner trying to save up enough money to open their own cupcake shop.
Hart of Dixie (CW) - New medical show set in Alabama.
Playboy Club (NBC) - Like Mad Men but with bunnies.
