Apparently Minnesotans really love their gas station egg rolls.

When I was a kid, my dad would make a gas station stop at the beginning of every road trip. He'd fill the tank with gas, run inside for snacks and return to our Toyota Sienna with bags of gummy worms, bears and rings. It wasn't a proper road trip if we didn't have our gummies.

Pilot Flying J -- the largest network of travel centers in North America with more than 750 retail locations in 44 states -- recently rounded up their findings of what food and drink travelers most prefer by state. Here are some of the results:

  • Pilot coffee was ranked among the top five in every state
  • Hot Dogs were top picks in six states (Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, North Carolina and West Virginia)
  • 37 states love bananas
  • 12- and 24-packs of beer were most popular in four states (Iowa, Washington, Wisconsin and West Virginia)
  • Sides (Mac & Cheese, Mashed Potatoes, Potato Wedges, Corn) were most popular in four states (Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts and New Mexico)

As for Minnesota -- apparently our favorite gas station snack food is egg rolls; we bought more than any other state.

I have a lot of questions about that. Then again, gummy worms didn't rank anywhere in Pilot Flying J's findings, so many I'm as weird as the rest!
