LITCHFIELD - Deputies in the Meeker County Sheriff's Office have traded in their traditional gold badges for ones that are hot pink. They'll be wearing the colorful badges throughout the month of October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Meeker County Deputy Marc Barris

Deputy Marc Berris proposed the idea, due to the recent loss of his aunt to breast cancer.

Sheriff Brian Cruze says he'll be wearing a pink badge himself.

The American Cancer Society says more than 231,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year.
