MANANNAH TOWNSHIP -- A number of pigs were killed in a large barn fire last (Monday) night.

The incident happened at about 11:20 p.m. at 60314 Street in Manannah Township.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Office says owner Mark Ruhland reported his barn containing a number of pigs and about 1,000 bales of straw was on fire.

Multiple fire crews were able to put out the fire and contain it to the barn.

The barn was a total loss and no one was hurt, however about 20 farrowing sows and a number of piglets did die in the blaze.

Authorities says the fire does not appear to be suspicious and may have started by a heat source in the barn.

The State Fire Marshal is investigation the incident.
