Madison Elementary School Could Be Renovated

ST. CLOUD - Madison Elementary in St. Cloud could see renovations in the future.

The renovations would come in two phases. The first phase would happen this summer and includes adding two new classrooms, two special education rooms and more space to the kitchen area.

Phase two would happen next year and would add another classroom, a special education workroom and would relocate the school office to the north of the building. The hope is to make the building more secure by moving the office towards the entrance.

The updates are expected to cost around $1-million and would be paid for with District operation funds.

Madison is running out of space due to growing enrollment. The St. Cloud Area School District passed the 10,100 student enrollment mark this year. It's the first time in over 10 years the district has had over 10,000 students.

Clearview Elementary, Kennedy Community School and North Junior High are also currently under renovation due to increased enrollment.

The school board only discussed the item during their meeting on Wednesday night. The district could potentially take action during their next meeting.
