DETROIT, MI -- The Minnesota Golden Gophers have won their first bowl game in over a decade with a 21-14 victory over the Central Michigan Chippewas in the Quick Lane Bowl on Monday.

The Gophers (6-7) led 10-7 at halftime after quarterback Mitch Leidner hit K.J. Maye on an 11-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

But the Chippewas (7-6) hung tough with the Gophers, eventually taking a 14-13 lead in the fourth quarter.

Leidner would respond with a 13-play, 74-yard drive which he capped off with a 13-yard touchdown run, followed by a two-point conversion to Maye in the back of the endzone to give Minnesota a 21-14 lead with under five minutes remaining.

Central Michigan looked to tie the game, moving the ball into Minnesota territory, but Gophers cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun nabbed a one-handed interception to stop the drive.

The win is Minnesota's first in a bowl game since 2004 when they defeated Alabama in the Music City Bowl.
