A kindergarten student brought a gun to school today (Tuesday) in Benson, Minnesota.  No injuries were reported and everyone is safe according to school officials.  Benson school officials did notify the Benson police department and Swift County sheriff's office around 8:05 am about a firearm at Northside Elementary School, which is located about 130 miles northwest of the Twin Cities.

Other students discovered the kindergartner had the gun, and told a teacher. The staff at the school immediately took possession of of the firearm, and nobody was hurt as a result. According to officials, there was never any intent by the child to cause harm to anyone. The schools 'crisis plan' was followed and the proper authorities were notified.  School officials posted a message to parents via Facebook this morning just before noon.
