Kelly’s Korner- Visit Accents In Downtown St. Cloud [PICTURES]
Beginning tomorrow night, (Thursday May 1st,) many local St. Cloud businesses will be open downtown from 5-9 pm due to so many people requesting evening shopping hours. I had the pleasure of visiting one of our many fantastic retailers earlier this week, and I was in heaven in her store. If you love unique home decor for indoors or out, you need to shop Accents. Kathy’s store has unique beautiful pieces that I’ve never seen before. I know that she works hard to bring one of kind type items in. When you walk in, you’ll find an eclectic collection that’s unmatched in our area.
Kathy’s business, Accents, was opened on Sept. 16, 2010. It is a culmination of Kathy’s personal interests. Kathy’s been doing retail sales off and on since she was 16 years old. She started at a Dry Goods store in a small town in Nebraska. She worked hard and did a number of other things–including getting a couple of degrees! But she always ended back doing retail. When you visit Accents, you’ll understand why. She has a true talent for “seeing” and creating beautiful rooms, and finding those unique one of a kind items that people love.
Accents ended up downtown St. Cloud because of it’s attractive downtown shopping area. Kathy says that the beautification of the area with plants and artwork, the new shops and restaurants that have opened, the feeling of community that is growing here is a joy to watch, as well as the renovation of so many of the older buildings that shows an appreciation for St. Cloud history, is another great part of the story. She also talked about the wonderful neighboring retailers that she has become friends with, who all want to work together to bring St. Cloud residents a great downtown shopping experience.
Kathy’s life story is interesting as well. Since Kathy was 12 years old, she moved at least 20 times. Those moves lead to a lot of packing and unpacking… arranging furniture and accessories in a lot of different configurations…Which explains her ability to arrange and create beautiful selections and displays.
In May of 2003 she attended classes given by the Interior Arrangement and Design Association. She then opened a home based business called Refreshing Interiors which she operated doing one-day room makeovers in peoples homes.
With the arrival of spring, many of us want to just change our home furnishings to freshen it up. Kathy say’s just replacing or adding an item or two with something new can really bring new life to a room or outdoor patio area. Accents has great ideas for both indoor and outdoor looks.
The purpose of Accents is to provide unique home accessories and gifts at reasonable prices. We all like nice things but don’t all have the means to pay an arm and a leg for them, so we look for designer looks at more realistic prices.
Accents carries a variety of styles of accessories-traditional, modern, unique– and Kathy works hard to have something for everyone. Accents regular business hours are Wed.- Fri. 10 am -6 pm and Saturday 10 am -4 pm. This will be fun to unwind on Thursday nights beginning Thursday May 1st, with evening hours from 5-9pm. Kathy also told me that she will come in for appointments on other days as needed. She still provides in home re-arrangements for customers who desire them. Those who are interested in shopping on Mondays and Tuesdays can simply call Accents at (320)266-2861.
