My Netflix Experience

How do you Netflix? Do you binge watch every television episode of all the shows people say you should never miss? Do you not have enough time during weekday evenings to watch your favorite show, because of running your kids here, there and everywhere?

Watching television is next to impossible for me. Thus...Netflix is my go to for my television viewing. This being said, there are many things I really DON'T like about Netflix instant streaming, but I DO like about Netflix DVD's.

Netflix Instant Streaming Movie Selections

After about a month, I found that the movie selections available through Netflix Instant Streaming were, well, not the greatest. I don't know how many times I've looked through the instant streaming selections and not been able to find anything I want to watch..again and again.   I do like to watch the documentaries, and my kids seem to enjoy some teen cartoon type selections...but It seems that the number of really good movies added to the Instant streaming list can't keep up with my appetite for more and better movies.

My Saving Grace! Netflix DVD Options

For a few extra dollars a month, you can get Netflix DVD's mailed to your home. Now..THIS is fun!  The DVD selections are much better than what's availabIe for instant streaming. I just log into my Netflix account, and can choose up to 8 movies to be sent to me. I can even select the order that I want them in. They are mailed to me one at a time. I can keep the movie for as long as I want, and once I'm done with it, I mail it back to Netflix, in the envelope provided, no postage necessary.

As soon as they get the movie back in house, they send out a new one to me. I love it!  At first, I thought it would drive me crazy to order DVD's to watch at a later time. After all, I'm looking for something to watch "right now!" Not next week. But I've found that getting a Netflix DVD in the mail each week, is just like getting a present in the mail. It brightens my day to see a bright red Netflix package mixed in with all the bills in my mailbox. It's my bright spot!

The Downside To Netflix DVD's

I have to say this weekend is the only time I've ever had this happen since belonging to the Netflix DVD club. After waiting for weeks to get my selection in the mail, I was very disappointed when the DVD skipped, and skipped and skipped. I watched 15 minutes of the movie, then took it out and cleaned it...AGAIN. I put it back in the player and started it over...and the same thing happened. So I wasted about an hour and a half trying to watch "The Grand Budapest Hotel"....now frustrated, because I caught a few words here and there.....interested but can't watch it again until I get another copy in the mail a week from today.

The good news...on the sleeve of the DVD, there is an website where you can report problems with your DVD selections, and they will send out a replacement immediately.

Overall Ups:

  • Television Series-  Thumbs Up! If you like watching series, Netflix can keep you wrapped up for hours. (Days if you're not careful).
  • Kids Selections- If you have kids, they like repetition, you have lots of options.
  • DVD's- Great selections! Much better selection of movies through the DVD option than instant streaming.

Overall Downs:

  • Limited Netlfix Instant Streaming Movie selections
  • When DVD's are damaged, it's disappointing. At least they offer you a fairly quick turn around time.
  • No LATE FEE'S- Friends tell friends to visit
