If you're an astronomy enthusiast, you are loving the idea of a supermoon on January 1st! But it won't be the only supermoon in January. And what IS a supermoon, anyway?

A supermoon is when the moon is slightly closer to Earth in its orbit than usual, which is most noticeable when there’s a full moon. This makes the moon look bigger. The "super" in supermoon is really the appearance of the moon being closer.

Supermoons don't impact much. However, they can affect the tides. There will be another chance to catch a larger than usual moon later in the month, on January 30th.
