Governor Dayton announced that June 7th is going to be a day to celebrate all that Prince has done as a pop icon. Prince would have been 58 years old today.

His career spanned 38 years, and in that time he released 39 albums. According to other sources, he also had vaults of unreleased recordings.

He was always breaking new grounds. Prince released an excessive amount of new material in rapid succession when Warner Brothers tried to stop him from releasing music to quickly. He wrote the word "SLAVE" across his cheek, in protest for all the world to see. Eventually he opened his own label, Paisley Park Records, and found new ways of distribution.

He wrote several songs that became hits for others:

  • Manic Monday- The Bangles
  • Sugar Walls- Sheena Easton
  • When You Were Mind- Cindy Lauper
  • Nothing Compares To U-Sinead O-Connor
  • Nasty Girl -Vanity 6

Let's Go Crazy, and wear Purple proudly, for our music hero Prince, every June 7th.
