Paranormal Activity 3

Starring: Chloe Csengery, Jessica Brown

Summary: The third installment of this popular horror-movie franchise is actually a prequel to the first two. Back in 1988, sisters Kristi (Brown) and Katie (Csengery) befriend an entity in their home. At first the entity is harmless enough, but soon strange things start happening around the house. Eventually the entity becomes violent as the girls try to sever ties with it and the family is forced to fight for their lives.

I like a good scare now and then, but the main reason I don’t like to watch “horror” movies these days is because many of them rely on blood and gore. People tend to fear the unknown and an invisible threat is way scarier than a psycho with a machete. So it’s refreshing to see a film that relies on the audience’s imagination to scare their socks off. Also, unlike many movies out there, the best scenes weren’t given away by the trailers. In fact, 95% of the scenes in the trailers didn’t make into the film. But fear not horror fans, I’m sure they’ll be included in a director’s cut when the DVD is released.

Trivia: Paranormal Activity 3 had the highest opening weekend of any horror movie. It pulled in a record-setting $54 million.

Rated: R – For some violence, language, brief sexuality and drug use.

Grade: A
