Ileana’s Movie Review: The Lorax
Starring: Danny DeVito, Ed Helms, Taylor Swift, Zac Efron
Summary: Having grown up in the plastic town of Thneedville, where everything is artificial, Ted (Efron) and Audrey (Swift) have never seen a real tree. Since Audrey’s life-long wish is to see a real tree, Ted goes on a quest to find out what happened to the trees and if there are any left. On his mission he meets the Once-ler (Helms). He tells Ted the story of how his greed destroyed the forests and how the Lorax (DeVito), a mystical creature that protects nature, had tried to stop him.
March 2, 2012 marked Dr. Seuss’ 108th birthday, so it’s only fitting that one of his most cherished stories have its theatrical release on that day. Being a fan of Dr. Seuss’ work, I have been looking forward to this movie for some time. I really enjoyed this adaptation and felt it honored the original work nicely. The animation is bright and colorful and the 3D scenes were done well. The movie is filled with lovable characters and catchy tunes, but what I enjoyed the most is that it delivers the message of conservationism without coming off as preachy. All in all, The Lorax is a fun family film worth watching.
Trivia: The characters of Ted and Audrey are named after Dr. Seuss (whose real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel) and his second wife Audrey Geisel.
Rated: PG – For brief mild language.
