Starring: Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne

Summary: Annie’s (Wiig) life is not going so well. Her business failed, her roommates are horrendous, the guy she’s seeing treats her like garbage, and now her best friend Lillian (Rudolph) is getting married and has asked her to be the maid of honor. Annie promises to make Lillian’s wedding a memorable event and everything is going well until she meets Helen (Byrne). Helen is Lillian’s rich new friend who keeps trying to usurp the maid of honor position from Annie. Through a series of ridiculously funny events, the wedding, their friendship, and even Annie’s sanity all begin to unravel. In the end Annie takes responsibility for her life and makes amends.

I’ve been a fan of Kristen Wiig’s for a long time and have been eagerly awaiting this movie. The best way to describe this movie would be as a female version of The Hangover. I’d say that it’s even raunchier than The Hangover at times. The character to watch for is definitely Megan played by Melissa McCarthy. She is the Zach Galifianakis character of the group. My two favorite scenes from this movie are the scene on the airplane and the scene at the bridal boutique. Once you the movie you’ll know why.

Trivia: This was the final film for actress Jill Clayburgh who died last November. She plays Annie’s mom.

Rated: R – For some strong sexuality, and language throughout.

Grade: A
