Ileana’s Movie Review: Scream 4

Starring: Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courtney Cox
Summary: It’s been ten years Sidney Prescott faced the Ghostface killer. She now returns home to promote her new book and re-connect with friends and family. Also returning are Sheriff Dewey and Gale who are now married. Sidney’s return sparks a murder spree and she finds herself in familiar territory and a new Ghostface emerges to terrorize a new generation.
Of all the Scream sequels this one is the best, even though I figured out who the killer was early on. And while it was surprisingly entertaining, it still lacked the excitement of the first one. Maybe it’s because horror movies have evolved so much in the past decade that the audience has been desensitized. Or maybe the original Scream formula just doesn’t work for today’s generation. Regardless of why, Scream 4 just feels like an echo of the original.
Trivia: With four installments, the Scream franchise is one of the only horror franchises to have its main characters return for all its sequels.
Rated: R – For strong bloody violence, language, and some teen drinking.
Grade: C
