Snacks are my downfall. I could eat a box of Triscuits or a bag of Twizzlers no problem. But it is a problem because, it's not a good idea to eat a whole bag or box of anything. Here are a few snacks that are satisfying, sweet (or salty) and, good for you!

I'm a big fan of coffee, so this one is perfect. An 8 ounce cappuccino made with skim and a plum is just 100 calories. The antioxidants in coffee are four times higher than tea or red wine and plums are packed with vitamin A, which supports your immune system, vision and skin health. Vitamin C which also helps your immune system, is an antioxidant and can lower allergy symptoms. Vitamin K which is essential for healthy blood and good digestive health and fiber, which helps you feel fuller longer, helps digestion and aids in good gut health.

I like apples as a good crunchy snack, but they can be inherently boring, so spice yours up. Chop an apple and top it with a pinch of sugar and some cinnamon. Pop it in the microwave for a minute. Stir and stick it back in the microwave for another 30 seconds and then top it with a tablespoon or so of chopped almonds. It's 100 calories and filled with protein, vitamin c and fiber.

I have come to like Wasa rye crackers, but they need a little something. Try two Wasa rye crackers topped with 1/4 cup of part skim ricotta cheese and a drizzle of honey. You'll have 150 calories of whole grains, protein, calcium, and antioxidants. Speaking of crackers, grab five whole grain crackers and top it with a couple of slices of turkey and some mustard. It's 150 calories of whole grains, plus protein, antioxidants and vitamin B2 for healthy blood, brain function and good gut health.

Smoothies are great when it's hot, but going to a smoothie shop is going to cost you and the store bought kind are packed with added sugar. Try this instead. Take a banana, a half cup of almond milk, two tablespoons of chocolate whey protein and a couple of ice cubes and blend until smooth. You'll have a 200 calorie snack loaded with protein, antioxidants, fiber and vitamin C plus potassium and B6 for reducing the risk of high blood pressure and stroke and boosting your metabolism, iron for healthy blood and vitamin E for good brain function.
