Gift Cards Or Money, Which Is A Better Holiday Gift?

I've got a few people in my family that are super hard to shop for and they refuse to give me Christmas gift ideas. So, I'm forced to give the gift of gift cards or money. My family members can do the dirty work of finding their own gift.

But, I'm a gift giver by nature...so gifting people with money or gift cards doesn't feel very personalized or Christmas-y. But, given the choice, I'd prefer to give gift cards because it at least shows I went to the store and thought about them enough to put in the effort to get a gift card.

But, then you have people like my sister who try to sell her gift card to people for money. She likes being able to have the freedom to choose where she spends the money--and usually it just ends up in savings. So, I'm wondering, do you like getting money or a gift card better?
