First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt Visited St. Cloud and Left Her Glasses Behind [PICTURES]

Chad Taylor

I’ve been to the Stearns History Museum many times this summer, and never noticed the pair of historic shell-rimmed eye glasses on display until Saturday morning.  First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt visited St. Cloud in October of 1941 and stayed at the Whitney family home.  She wrote a letter to Mrs. Whitney dated November 6, 1941, and remarked how pleasant her time in St. Cloud was.  Check out the letter from Mrs. Roosevelt and particularly the P.S. she wrote below.

Here’s a picture of those famous eye glasses that never did reach the White House. According to the museum staff, Mrs. Roosevelt told Mrs. Whitney to keep them after all.
