The first photos of Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords released since she was shot in the head in January were posted on the congresswoman's Facebook page over the weekend and they show that the representative from Arizona continues to make amazing progress on her road to recovery.

Although the photos were just released, they were taken on May 17th, the day Giffords attended the launch of the space shuttle Endeavour with her husband Mark Kelly at the command. The following day, she underwent skull surgery.

Giffords' spokesperson C.J. Karamargin told CNN she sees the congresswoman once a month and every time she sees and hears "tremendous improvement and I think these pictures really capture the resilience of Gabby Giffords."
