ST. CLOUD -- Crews worked to put out a fire at an abandoned house in Sartell on Friday.

Firefighters responded to the fire shortly after 4:30 p.m. at 32247 County Road 1 in Le Sauk Township.

Sheriff John Sanner says no one was hurt in the fire and the house is a total loss.

The owner of the house is 65-year-old Walter Johnson of St. Cloud but the house has been unoccupied for about five years.

Neighbor Dan Heinen says it has been unoccupied but the owner had kept things in storage in the house and garage.

"We didn't see anyone there -- there wasn't any unusual activity," Heinen says. "[The house] just started on fire and was burning pretty good by the time they arrived."

Sanner says the cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.

Stearns County deputies were assisted at the scene by fire and police departments from Sartell, Sauk Rapids, and St. Cloud.
