The way Apollo lost yesterday to Orono, can only be described as "heartbreak fashion".  It might take a while for the players, coaches, parents, and fans of the program to watch another basketball game.  I've been there.  There's nothing worse than losing a game that you shouldn't have lost, especially if there is the feeling that you gave it away.  Blowing an 18 point lead with ten minutes left, and eventually losing in overtime, certainly leaves a horrible feeling.

The Eagles must feel a little bit snake bitten.  They lost in the section championship game to Little Falls, on last second shots, each of the previous three seasons.  After pounding Little Falls this season, now they lose in overtime, to an Orono team that also beat them in December, in another very close game.

I sincerely hope the Eagles players don't let this one last game tarnish what was an unbelievable year.  Apollo was undefeated in Central Lakes Conference play.  Coach Kessler and his staff are terrific.  The Eagles were clearly the best team in all of Central Minnesota.  And though they are losing many good players to graduation, the future is still extremely bright.

An entire season's worth of brilliance, won't be forgotten by one bad half.  Congratulations on a season that, nobody associated with Apollo basketball, will ever forget.  I can say I was lucky enough to see them play a few times this year.  This Eagles team has set the standard, to which all teams from our area, will be compared to in the future.

That is something that can never be taken away from them - something they should always be proud of.
