Daniel Day-Lewis Wins Best Actor at the 2013 Oscars
In a win that surprised no one, Day-Lewis won Best Actor as the Oscars for his role in ‘Lincoln’ beating out Bradley Cooper, Joaquin Phoenix, Denzel Washington and Hugh Jackman. This was Daniel Day-Lewis’ third Best Actor win (after ‘My Left Foot’ and ‘There Will Be Blood’), which is a new Oscar record.
It was the second Oscar acting win for ‘Lincoln’ after Tommy Lee Jones won for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Thaddeus Stevens earlier in the evening.
As he often does, Day-Lewis famously studied Abraham Lincoln long before filming began with many people seeing the actor walking and talking like the former President almost a year before shooting began. He even signed e-mails and letters “A.” to stay in character. Day-Lewis had won almost all the major critics and guild awards and was widely considered one of the biggest frontrunners of the 2013 Oscars headed into the evening.
