Those nutty kids at PepsiCo are thinking ahead! They're developing drinkable food. In a recent interview, the Chairman and Chief Executive Indra Nooyi is counting on you wanting a "snackified" drink.

The company is beginning an unheard of expansion into more nutritious convenience foods, and at a premium price. Their first new product is called Tropolis, an 80-calorie fruit puree that PepsiCo considers thick enough to be a snack rather than a beverage. Under the Tropicana product umbrella, it comes in brightly colored pouches, and marketed to moms and kids. You'll be able to find it in apple, grape and cherry. They roll it out in test markets in the Midwest next month, at $2.49 to $3.49 for a four-pack.

In the interview from the Wall Street Journal, Nooyi says;

"We see the emerging opportunity to 'snackify' beverages and 'drinkify' snacks as the next frontier in food and beverage convenience," Ms. Nooyi said. She cited examples such as kefir, a sour, yogurt-like drink that is popular in Russia and that some say aids in digestion. She said she expects to see dairy products mixed with juice, grains, fruits and nuts, all of which PepsiCo markets.

If I recall, didn't NASA come up with this idea for the astronauts? I remember as a kid being told that they ate out of packets of goo, flavored like turkey and gravy. Plus, Jones Soda has been 'drinkifying' food for years!
