COLD SPRING -- A great way to beat the heat, Cold Spring is in favor of building a splash pad.

The city is moving forward with plans to develop a splash pad. The Splash Pad Committee led by Tim and Tom Kraemer has been researching what locations would be best for a splash pad, estimated cost and different designs since January.

City Administrator Brigid Murphy says the Kraemer's narrowed down a couple potential spots for the splash pad.

"The committee found that a location in Granite Landing, which is near the [Sauk] river was considered the best location, with Pioneer Park being the second."

A firefighter design in honor of the Cold Spring Fire Department is still being discussed by the committee. Murphy says a firefighter theme could include water spouts that look like a firefighter's hose and firefighter ladder style fixtures.

Murphy says the estimated cost of the project really comes down to the size of the splash pad.

"Depending on how large the pad, the actual foundation where the elements are, the water is and where the kids play, depending on that size it can be anywhere between $240,000 to $580,000."

The committee suggested to the council a 2,800 square foot splash pad, which would cost about $340,000.

More research still needs to be done before construction can get underway. If you are a Cold Spring community member and would like to join the Splash Pad Committee, you can stop by City Hall or call Brigid Murphy at 320-685-3653.
