Cleaning your make up tools  makes them feel nice on your skin and helps apply make up more evenly.  If you've never thought about cleaning your make up brushes, here are some tips on what we should be cleaning and how often.

MAKE UP BRUSHES SHOULD BE CLEANED AND STORED UPRIGHT

To prevent your brushes from getting all gunked up from other cosmetics, try keeping your brushes in a Mason jar.  Mason jars are super cute, and easy to clean and grab a brush when you need it.

CLEAN YOUR MAKE UP CONTAINER OR MAKE UP BAG

The container that you keep your make up in, is a perfect place for bacteria to breed.  Yuk!    An easy way to keep it clean without taking too much time, is to get a paper towel damp with an all purpose cleaner, and wipe it out.  Let it dry before you start refilling your container with your makeup.

THROW AWAY OLD MAKE UP

Replace your mascara at least every two months.  This will limit the chances of infection, and it makes sure the formula's enhancing your lashes.   Liquid foundation has a shelf life of six months to a year.  Powder make up can last for years.  All natural products expire, so be careful to keep them out of warm, humid climates, because they lack preservatives.  If a product has been occupying your make up case but hasn't touched your face in months, then throw it out.  Also...throw away dried up lip or eye pencils.

CLEAN  MAKE UP SPONGES & FOUNDATION BRUSHES

Clean your make up sponges and foundation brushes with warm water and squeeze out as much color as you can.  Once the color runs out, massage the sponge with a mild cleaner until all the color runs out.  Rinse and let dry overnight.  This is something that should be done weekly, so if you never do it, either replace those sponges or start cleaning.

WASH OUT YOUR MAKE UP BRUSHES

It's easy to damage bristles on make up brushes, so carefully wash them in a gentle cleaner and warm water.  Rinse them out thoroughly.  Lay the brushes on a paper towel once clean.  You'll notice that they feel a lot softer once you've washed out all the old make up.  This should be done at least once a month.
