I'm always skeptical when people say, "If you just went to bed earlier, you could lose weight." Ba Humbug. Really? Really?  Maybe a 20 year old...but what if you're over 50?!!

The study, which I found by going to www.eathtis.com, says that sleeping less than the recommended time each night, can sabotage your weight loss dreams by as much as 55%!  (Geez...I really need to go to bed!).

STAYING UP TO CLEAN HOUSE? KNOCK IT OFF!

Staying up for a few extra hours to make sure you have your house cleaned, your clothes ready, and your lunch fixed for the next day, the worse it is for you. If you are tired, you'll crave high calorie foods, and your body's fat storage hormone, cortisol, will increase.  Get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep. If it's under 6, you might as well get comfortable being overweight.  (Don't do that...just get 6 hours!)

FORGET THAT COMFY COUCH OR CHAIR AND GO TO BED!

Try not to fall asleep in a chair or on the couch...If you have to get up in the middle of the night, and make it back to your bedroom, you're disrupting your sleep, when you really need to resting. If you aren't sleeping soundly your body will product ghrelin the next day, which is a hunger stimulating hormone that increases feelings of hunger even when your body doesn't need food.

STOP BING WATCHING TV

Reading before bed, IS better than bing watching your favorite tv shows...BUT! Don't do it on a computer, ipade, or other electronic device. Read a real...book. No electricity needed besides the lamp beside your bed.

DON'T DRINK WATER?

Drinking water is always recommended but NOT before bed. Just like a lot of people, I drink water right up until bedtime and then I'm getting up to hit the bathroom three times a night. You'll have to make sure to empty your bladder before you lay down, and then DON'T drink water til morning.

STOP SNACKING IN BED

Snacking in bed is also a really bad idea. Late night snacking makes it hard for your body to digest all night.

SLEEP IN A COLD ROOM

Do you like it cold when you sleep?  GOOD! That's a good thing when it comes to weightloss. According to a study done in the diabetes journal, cold temps help us attack belly fat while3 sleeping. and a cold room helps you fall asleep faster and stay asleep. I think it's hibernation.

CHOCOLATE

Having chocolate before bed is also a no no. Chocolate needs to be kept as a mid day snack.
