It happens every time I start a new diet. I soak up all the information I can find about nutrition and exercise. The only difference this time, is that I plan to make it stick! Okay, I've said that the last 10 times too, but this time I mean it!

So I was looking through some old magazines and I found an article about how to burn more calories by eating the right foods versus the wrong foods. Seems easy enough, but I was surprised by a couple of things.

For instance, one study shows that drinking two 8-ounce glasses of water increases metabolism by 30%! If you make it really cold water, it boosts the burn even more!

Another researcher found that eating certain healthy fats for breakfast turns on your fat-burning switch early in the day. Some examples are sliced avocado on an English muffin, or peanut butter on toast or a banana.

I love spices of all kind. So I was happy to hear that ginger and cinnamon can raise your body temp, so your metabolism speeds up slighly to cool it down! Sprinkle a little in your coffee, tea, oatmeal, smoothie, just about anywhere!

And no surprise here. Your body uses more calories digesting fresh foods, like whole grains instead of the processed stuff.

Now, this doesn't mean you shouldn't exercise too, but every little bit helps!
