Mayim talks about this in her new parenting book, "Beyond the Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way." Long title but full of interesting information. Not only does she breast-feed much longer than "normal," she also says her and her husband don't use diapers. In addition to Fred who still breastfeeds, her six-year-old son Miles didn't use diapers either.

"With diapers you're basically training your child to use their pants as a bathroom and two years later we have them turn around and do all sorts of complicated manipulations to get them to unlearn."

Mayim has more of a "green" style of parenting and say she doesn't buy her kids expensive toys even though she can afford it.

"Our society's obsession with consumerism, especially in the realm of baby things, baby soaps and baby products. That's something that my husband and I, partly for frugality and partly for environmental reasons, have really rejected.  We figure everything out without spending a lot of money on that kind of stuff."

I see her point! Think of how we grew up. Playing outside in the streets until it was time for dinner or bed. Not sitting down on the couch playing the Wii until all hours of the night. Times have changed, that's for sure!

Do you agree with her parenting style?
