Lili Elbe was a transgender woman that came way before Cait Jenner. Although we can only imagine the difficulties that Cait and other people of transgender have fitting in to today's society, imagine being transgender in the 1930's!

Lili was born as Einar Mogens Wegener, a very successful artist in the day. He was born in Denmark, and also presented himself as Lili, Einar's sister! He did marry, and his wife was also a very talented artist, whose protraits were inspired by Lili. He had many surgeries, including having ovaries implanted and later removed, and finally having a uterus implanted that eventually lead to his/her death.

The story is one of life...hopes...dreams...tragedies. "The Danish Girl" novel by David Ebershoff is now being turned into a movie, with Oscar winning Edgar Redmayne, starring as Lili.
