Beauty And The Beast Was AWESOME, A Must See
One of the first movies I ever really connected to was the 1991 Disney animated film Beauty And The Beast. My mom would always let me pick the movies when I was little even though she knew I'd choose something we'd seen 100 times before. Beauty And The Beast was no exception. It was one of the first movies I ever cried to.
So, as a Disney kid at heart, you can bet I was ecstatic to find out that Disney was coming out with a live-action version of one of my favorite films. I've been waiting months to see this movie and this weekend I finally went to Marcus Parkwood Cinema and saw it!
I must admit that I had some reservations about seeing the film because I was worried that the directors would put their own twist on the movie and change some key elements that I loved about the original film.
Even though NPR recently published an opinion article ripping the movie, I thought it was awesome! I loved how directors Gary Trousdale and Kirk Cruise stayed true to the original script--it was quite a relief! I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and I thought it would be hard to see Emma Watson as anything other than Hermione. But, with her blue maid dress and beautiful gold ballgown she looked and acted the part of Belle. By the end of the film I was saying Hermione who?!
It was interesting to see the way the characters were portrayed on the big screen. Mrs. Potts, Chip, Cogsworth and Lumiere were more realistic and less animated and whimsical, which wasn't an issue at all. The depiction was a little different than I had anticipated, but it worked!
The Beast seemed more vulnerable than I remember him being in the animated movie. The film gave us more insight into who he was before becoming a wicked prince. It was kind of a neat surprise for all of us Disney kids who thought we knew exactly what to expect and what was coming up next.
If you haven't gone to see Beauty And The Beast yet, you must! Don't wait for it to come out on Netflix. It's definitely a film you want to experience on the big screen--especially, if you're a Disney fanatic!
