Tonight’s ClubMix Spotlight features a group we have been playing but wanted to give the extra spotlight to, Graffiti6.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Jamie Scott tonight, and if you love accents, you will fall in love with Jamie. The two guys that make up Graffiti6 are Jamie and Tommy Danvers. They got together in 2008 in London and have been hitting the music scene all over the world. Currently on tour with Eric Hutchinson supporting  their latest album, Colours. Tonight’s ClubMix Spotlight features a new band to Central Minnesota, Midnight Red. Midnight Red is: Joey Diggs Jr., Thomas Augusto, Anthony Ladao, Colton Rudloff, and Eric Secharia. I got the pleasure of speaking with Colton and Joey, and talk about a fun group of guys! Boy bands are back and Midnight Red will bring back the memories of 98 Degrees, New Kids On The Block, Backstreet Boys, and ‘N Sync. Was lucky to get an interview with vocalist Josh Jenkins! They are on tour right now, and will be at 7th Street Entry Saturday Night (April 28.) Today (April 25) marks the 10-year anniversary of the untimely death of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. The TLC rapper-singer was killed in a car accident while vacationing in Honduras in 2002. In remembrance, a previously unreleased song featuring Left Eye is now available for purchase on iTunes.

The song is called ‘Fantasies’ by rapper Bootleg, a member of the ’90s rap group the Dayton Family. The track was released by Block Starz Music, a German label that was recently acquired by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. Proceeds from the single will benefit the late rapper’s youth organization, the Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes Foundation.

On the song, which interpolates the Isley Brothers’ classic song ‘For the Love You,’ Left Eye describes “dreams as fantasies with the possibility of becoming a reality.” She later raps about exploring her romantic fantasies with the love of her life.

“Now what would I do if I was sitting on top of the world / Money and fame was written like diamonds and pearls / Cadillac and Lamborghini to name a few / Silent dreams in my head to ride away with you,” she rhymes.

The song is touching a reminder of how talented Left Eye was to the music community.

In a press release, TLC member Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins reflected on the death of her late friend. “The word anniversary means a celebration,” she states. “For us her death will never be a celebration, it’s still something that hurts.” Fellow TLC member Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas concurs, “Lisa is our sister. You never get over losing a family member. We love her and we miss her and that isn’t ever going to change.”

This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the group’s influential career. T-Boz and Chilli are currently executive-producing a TLC biopic with VH1 and ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ screenwriter Kate Lanier. “This project is truly a dream come true for us,” says Chilli. Also, TLC is working on a 20th anniversary package which will include a new album featuring original songs and remixes of their classic hits, as well as an accompanying tour.

We all miss Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and may she rest in eternal peace.

SARTELL — Repairs to a ruptured sewer main underneath Stearns County Road 1 between St. Cloud and Sartell have been completed, but the road remains closed.

Sartell City Administrator Patti Gartland says the road repairs won’t be completed in time to re-open the road tonight. She says it will re-open sometime tomorrow. It’s unclear when that will be, however.

The road was closed between County Road 1 and Heim’s Mill after a resident reported sewage leaking into their basement. An excavation crew then struck the line causing it to rupture.

Gartland says they may never know what caused the initial leak but added it is unusual because the pipe was replaced only six years ago when a new lift station was built in the area.

ST. CLOUD – Not many of us could ever think of having a stroke as being a blessing, but today we have a story of a young from St. Cloud who has used this adversity to make a big difference.

In June of 2007 Kyle Scheeler’s life changed forever.  He was at home with his parents when all of a sudden he started having a stroke.

The stroke happened just prior to Scheeler’s senior year at Cathedral High School.  He says, because he was young and otherwise healthy, his recovery went well.  And, when he left for college in Duluth, he thought he’d put the stroke behind him.

It finally ‘clicked’ for him one day when he was reading a story about former New England Patriot’s player Tedy Bruschi, who also was a stroke survivor. Last year Scheeler wrote his idol Bruschi a letter explaining how similar their stories were.  A short time later he received a call from the organizer of Tedy’s Team, a group that runs in the Boston Marathon every year to raise awareness and money for the American Stroke Association.  Scheeler had been invited to run with the team, which he did – his first marathon ever.

Now Scheeler spends his time giving back to other people who might be looking up to him.  At a stroke walk in Minneapolis last summer he met a boy named Elliot, who had a stroke when he was five-years-old.  Elliot is a huge sports fan, and Scheeler made it his goal for Elliot to meet his sports idol.

Scheeler says he’ll be graduating from St. Cloud State University next year, and he plans to make community service and involvement a career.

In the meantime, Scheeler says he’ll keep running marathons for the cause.  He’ll be running on Tedy’s Team in the Boston Marathon again this year on April 16th.  You can help him by donating to his cause.

And he’s also hosting a pasta dinner fundraiser on Saturday, March 10th at 4:30 p.m. at the St. Augusta Legion.

Jen says she has all but two of her Christmas presents purchased. Pete, of course, says he waits til Christmas Eve and hits the Dollar Store for their sales. (Duh, do they even run sales at the Dollar Store? Poor doofy Peter) Pete and the Morning MIX Carolers composed this holiday classic for the occasion:

1). Makes friends with your local Big Box personnel – Go to Target, Wal-Mart and others and chat up the folks working the aisles and stocking. Find out when they re-stock shelves and stop in those evenings or early the next day. many times you’ll find the cases of toys, etc waiting for you in aisles as they prepare to load the shelves.

2). Check out the big box store apps- Most of them let you check if the item is in stock at your local stores or it can search out the item and tell you where it is in stock. it might be a drive but it beats paying thru the nose on eBay. Some apps may also show you what’s in stock in the warehouse, this time of year  employees are super busy and they may leave re-stocking for overnights. Many times you’ll be able to purchase the item right thru the app and pick it up at the store if they have it in stock!

3). Check the penny auction sites like Beezid.com or QuiBids.com. You’re bidding against hundreds of others and the sites take some getting used to, but once you master them you can pick up hard to find toys and gadgets for a fraction of the retail price.

You may have heard about the older lady that got strip searched by the TSA over Thanksgiving- she sued, the TSa says the didn’t do anything wrong. So The Morning MIX Carolers offered up their take on it to the tune of another screwy holiday classic-

We thought this was a good idea for daycare providers, until we got a call from Renee Olson, Executive Director of Childcare Choices. Renee told us their organization lends out toys for the meager price of $5, which is a lot less than Toygaroo.com. They specialize in educational type toys. They also have a Facebook page that updates you on their latest programs.

As far as parents are concerned, most of you thought it was a good idea, since kids get bored with toys quickly.

It was an especially happy Thanksgiving for 70 Minnesota National Guard soldiers and their families as they returned home to St. Cloud Wednesday.

There was very little ceremony, just a lot of hugs, tears, and celebrating as the soldiers walked off the airplane and into the arms of their friends and family.

The Soldiers are from the St. Cloud-based Company B, 2nd General Support Aviation Battalion, 211th Aviation Regiment.  They spent the past year flying personnel and cargo out of Iraq into Kuwait, in support of the draw down in Iraq.

We’re excited to be the flagship station for this year’s Winter Nights and Lights Parade. The theme is ‘A Dickens of a Holiday’ and there’s a ton of stuff to do that night, starting with the parade along St. Germain at 5pm. Following that, make your way down to The River’s Edge Convention Center for the tree lighting celebration and a warm and cozy after-party inside the Kelly Inn. Not only are The Receders playing, but there’s food, pictures with Santa, a petting zoo, cookie decorating and a coloring contest, sponsored by TruStone Financial. Ileana the MIX Movie Maven stops by every Tuesday with her DVD picks-

This week she says buy ‘Super 8′ because it’s everything a movie should be and with the team of Speilberg and JJ Abrams (Alias, LOST, Star Trek) you can’t go wrong. It has a great kid cast of unknowns and the suspense is real. She gave it an A in her review.

Rent ‘Conan the Barbarian’ – Ily gave it a C in her review and says the ONLY redeeming quality is a shirtless Jason Momoa. Too bloody, too cheesy and just plain over-done.

Don’t even bother with ‘Spy Kids: All the Time In The World’ - a new cast, and silly cameos by the former cast and Director Robert Rodriguez’s buddies make this a poor imitation of the first two Spy Kids movies. Dull action and even duller acting.

We’re all pumped to see The Muppets back on-screen this weekend. Ily says Jason Seigel is kind of a big Muppet himself.

Breaking Dawn Pt 1 premiered at Midnight at Parkwood 17 and as part of our exclusive coverage, Movie Maven Ileana and Intern Ashli begged us to send them out- and they talked with the Twi-Hards. We also brought in Ty James for a preview of the two local football squads battling for the the State Championships down at the dome. The Annandale Cardinals take on the Fairmont Cardinals at 3:15 today. Ty says they have a really good chance at winning and moving on. Listen to The Ty James Traffic Jam for updates on that game’s score. BTW in grand fashion, the Annandale Schools will let out at Noon today so everyone can get to the game in time! NICE!

The ROCORI Spartans are facing a tough team; Hill-Murray, coached by former NFL and Viking alum Brooks Bollinger. Ty says the Spartans are ‘loose as a goose’ and that Coach Rick Theisen is more confident than he’s ever seen him. You can hear Ty call the game live on our big brother station AM 1240 WJON or online at WJON.com The pre-game starts about 11:30 and the game fires up at Noon. Good luck to the Cards and Spartans!

If you notice a few more guys with dark eye shadow on today or more than usual pale foundations on your office-mates, it’s (probably) because ‘Twilight: Breaking Dawn Pt. 1′ premieres at Midnight at Parkwood 17. We’re pretty sure you can still buy some tickets online from Parkwood  here.  Rumour is ALL 17 screens will be going for the Midnight show! Good thing we gave away a slew of tickets for the show.

Now that the Occupy Wall Street protestors have been told they can only protest during business hours, isn’t that kind of like having a job on Wall Street? Head to downtown, sit around all day yelling and then back home to the suburbs for a drink and dinner with the mistress? Anyhow, we wondered about what the Occupiers were going to do about Thanksgiving, since there won’t be anyone around to yell at… or will there?

Gold medalist Peter Vanderkaay is hosting a swim clinic next Thursday at the St. Cloud YMCA.

He won gold medals at the 2004 and 2008 games: He was a member of the 2004 Olympic Gold Medal 800m freestyle relay team: member of the 2008 Olympic World Record breaking and Gold medal 800m freestyle relay team; 2008 Olympic Bronze medalist in the 200m freestyle.  And , he’s currently training for the 2012 games.

Vanderkaay says the U.S. trials will be held in June in Omaha.

He says he started swimming at the age of seven, and when he started he wasn’t all that good.

While he’s in town next week, he’ll talk with coaches and swimmers, hold a question and answer session, and work with swimmers on deck or in the pool.  The clinic is from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the YMCA.  The cost is $30 — it’s limited to 100 participants.

Dateline October 27th, 2011-

In a stunning turn of events, the slippery villain known only as The MIX 94.9 $5000 Fugitive was captured today by a Citizen Bounty Hunter.

The trail left by this sinister criminal has lead 1000′s of individuals and hundreds of self-proclaimed Bounty Hunter Teams across the streets, parks, malls and offices of Central Minnesota. Many driving as far away as the Twin Cities and Fargo to join in the vast manhunt.

The chase came to an abrupt end this afternoon about 4:30pm as The Fugitive made a fateful mistake. Just after 4pm, The Fugitive made his final daring call to Ty James, interrupting his wildly popular Ty’s Teaser.

The call was especially cryptic:

Barb Golden of Buffalo came to the same conclusion as we did, that hint meant he was outside at Barnes (farmhands) and Noble (King) Bookstore near Highway 15 and Division Street. Fortunately for us, Barb was on the scene, ready with her well practiced question.

We arrived shortly thereafter with our Extraction Team to whisk Barb to safety and The Fugitive to justice. We also stopped at the radio station so the slippery devil could answer for his crimes to the victims.

Upon capture The Fugitive did as he promised: He presented Barb with the Bounty of $5000. We cleared the acceptance of this reward with the radio station. They felt that it was the best thing, since Barb had gone thru such lengths to track down The Fugitive.
