My wife and I spent last weekend in Des Moines at Ramsey Village visiting my father in law John Schaffner.  He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease about seven years ago and last September finally had to be placed in a nursing home.  I've never met anyone quite like him before.  John is the kind of man we all want to be; he's a devoted husband, father and loyal friend.  He served the state of Iowa for over thirty plus years, volunteered on many boards / committee's in his community and was elected to serve on the Southeast Polk school board, something he was very proud of.

When someone is diagnosed with Parkinson's its something not only the patient struggles with but the family as well.  My family and I have seen what this disease has done to John and how it continues to strip him of the life he once had.  Please take this month to learn more about Parkinson's Disease and how you can get involved with the fight in your very own community.

Along with my co worker Joe Erickson (who lost his father Tom to Parkinson's after a 16 year battle) we plan to help raise awareness by working with local charities and establishing a golf tournament in honor of his father who lost his fight and my father in law who continues the fight!
