The St. Cloud Apollo Eagles finally got over the hurdle that was Little Falls.  That impressive victory, the third of the year against the Flyers - means that tonight, the Eagles have an opportunity to play for the section championship.

Apollo cruised through the Central Lakes Conference, going undefeated in league play.  Tonight, they face a Detroit Lakes team that is hot, and confident.  The Eagles should have a significant size advantage tonight, however.

That size was evident in the win versus Little Falls last Saturday.  Blake Maslonkowski has been terrific all year for the Eagles.  He is a force on the inside, and had an easy 22 points against Little Falls.  Getting him going is paramount for the Eagles, who do have sharp shooters from the outside, as well.  Another senior, Derek Steve, is the most dangerous of these from three point range

The Eagles are experienced and talented.  Ibrahim Abukar is very quick and an excellent ball handler.  Ryan Tesch and Simon Krych are both big AND very skilled.  All 5 Apollo starters can shoot.  When the bench enters the game, Brett Maslonkowski and Chris Otte are both very good shooters from deep.

The Eagles have no weaknessess.  This just may be their year.  If they win tonight, they would play Wednesday at Williams Arena, in what would amount to a state semi-final game.  If they win that, they would play for the state championship three days later, on Saturday at Target Center.

My prediction for tonight - it won't be easy - but Apollo wins 61-55.

Then we'll see you Saturday in Minneapolis!
