A classically trained actor and known for his amazing Shakespearean performances on the stage, Andy Serkis has made a living in film by playing CGI characters. His performance as Gollum in the LOTR trilogy garnered him three SAG noms and one win, along with a host of other awards. His take on the monstrous King Kong (for the very same director, Peter Jackson) is regarded as one of the best motion capture performances ever.

In the new film Rise of the Planet of the Apes, he again takes on the role of an overly intelligent, soulful and strikingly human chimpanzee. In the behind the scenes video below Andy talks about the motivation, and the struggles of acting for an animated character.
