SARTELL -- Starting today (Friday), residents of the Sartell school district may fill out absentee ballots for the upcoming $105.8 million bond referendum for a new high school and upgrades to several district buildings.

Those wanting to vote absentee can request a ballot to be sent to them by filling out an application on the district's website, or by calling the Stearns County Auditor-Treasurer's office at 320-656-3920 to have one mailed to them.

Absentee voters can also submit their vote in-person at the Sartell-St. Stephen District Service Center at 212 3rd Street North in Sartell. Voting hours at the district service center run Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Residents must be registered in order to vote absentee. Voting registration is held at the district service center.

The bond referendum election will be held on May 24th. The next community forum will be held at the Sartell City Hall on Tuesday (April 12th) at 8:30 a.m.

The district wants to bond $105.8 million over 25 years. Here’s how the money would be used:

  • $89.5 million would be spent on a new high school.
  • $1.7 million would go to Pine Meadow.
  • $650,000 would go to Oak Ridge.
  • $2.55 million would go towards the middle school (which would become a 3rd-5th grade intermediate school).
  • $10.55 million would go to the existing high school (which would become a middle school).
  • $850,000 would go towards borrowing costs.
