Back in high school I was awarded the Gumption Scholarship. It is a scholarship given every year to a senior at Long Prairie- Grey Eagle High School in honor of Jodi Huisentruit. The $4000 scholarship goes to the student who best exhibits hard work, determination and of course gumption, just like Jodi.

Jodi was from Long Prairie, and after graduating went to work as a TV news anchor in Mason City Iowa. On June 27th, 1995 she was abducted on her way to work and unfortunately to this day they still have very few clues as to what happened to her. You can read more on this here.

Jodi was on the Long Prairie State Champion Golf Team and every year they hold a fundraising golf scramble at the Long Prairie Country Club to raise funds for the Gumption Scholarship in her name. The 12th Annual Day of Hope golf scramble and fundraiser this year is being held on Friday, June 10th. The event is sponsored by Jodi's Network of Hope and the mission is to advance and promote personal safety awareness and inspire students to reach their full potential.

Tee-off for the scramble is at 12:30 PM with a social hour and dinner to follow. It's a great time and I strongly encourage anyone to join in! Even if you can't golf you can sponsor holes or provide prizes!
