St. Cloud State University students start the move in process tomorrow. St. Cloud Police are advising you to expect some traffic delays near the university as hundreds of volunteers help thousands of freshmen settle into the dorms.

Here are some things that you should know about this year's freshmen--it might make you feel a little old.

  • Most of the freshmen were born in 1997. Yes, they weren't even alive when Princess Diana died.
  • They've never lived in a world where Harry Potter didn't exist. The series debuted the year that most of them were born.
  • They've been able to Google random information since they were old enough to use computers. Most have never actually had to use a physical copy of the dictionary.
  • They most likely don't remember a world without Wi-Fi.
  • They've grown up in a world where there was always interleague play in baseball. It started in the 1997 season.
  • And, of course, they've been spoiled with HD TV for practically their entire lives.
  • "Formal" communication to them tends to mean email.
  • They aren't as impressed as their parents when a female becomes the first to hold a particular office. It has become normal for them.
  • Nearly all of their sources in term papers have been internet sources.
  • Many of them grew up watching Playhouse Disney.

Welcome to central Minnesota freshmen! Thank you for making us all feel just a little older.
